Jenna and Jon are getting married on Saturday. A couple of months ago we made their engagement pictures in Cecilia. I am posting a few of the images for everyone to look at.

Look what the stork dropped off!

Thursday April 29, 2010 the stork dropped off a little surprise on our doorstep. Boy, were Donna, Dawson and I surprised when we opened the package to find this little one squirming around. We figured that we needed another addition to the family so we kept him and named him Davis.

O.K. so that's not really the way it happened. But we were a little surprised when Davis came a tad bit early. It's a week later so I figured that I had better post some pictures of the new little guy. Below are a few snapshots of Davis's hospital stay.

Here is Davis James Propes, he weighed 6 lbs. 7 oz. and was 18 inches long.

Dawson met his new little brother after he was only a few hours old. I think he was excited to see Davis.

Dawson brought Davis his very first present in Hospital. He kept putting it next to Davis so that he could hear the music it makes.

I think Dawson is proud of his new little brother.

Samantha and Sarah

A few weeks ago, I visited Glendale again to do portraits of Samantha and Sarah May. Samantha and Sarah along with their parents attend the same church as Donna and I. We had a great Saturday afternoon and the weather turned out perfect. Below are a few images from the session.

We completed the day at The Whistle Stop. Everyone had a lot of fun making these images. I think that we got some great images to boot.

The Langfels

The Langfels came by the other day and I was honored to take their family portraits. The Langfels have five children age 9 months to 5 years old when we took their pictures. That's what I call a busy mom. I have posted a couple of their portraits for everyone to look at.

Peyton

Peyton turned one recently and her mom and dad had me take her first year portraits. Peyton is the daughter of Carrie and Andy Singer. I took Peyton's newborn pictures last year and photographed Carrie and Andy when they were married in 2006.

Peyton is a very photogenic young model. I have posted some of her pictures below.

Trick or Treat

Saturday evening was Trick or Treat night and Dawson decided to dress up as a Cowboy. I took these quick snapshots in the back yard before we went around the neighborhood.

I processed this image to make it look like the old SX-70 film. The cool thing about Dawson's outfit is that we already had everything.

I made sure his gun wasn't loaded before we went out.

John and Tara are getting married on Saturday. The wedding is going to be held at Camp Nikao just outside of Elizabethtown. I am excited about their day because I know from photographing their engagement session, we are going to get some great images. Below are some of their engagement images which we shot in Glendale.

We had a lot of fun this day. They kept eyes on my back to keep me from getting hit by a train.

Steven and Stephanie

Steven and Stephanie were married in Louisville on June 20 this year. Steven is a photographer and owns Morgan Sports Photography in Elizabethtown. It is always a privilege and a compliment when another photographer chooses me to photograph their wedding. Steven and Stephanie are a great couple. Jessica and Steven were married on June 13 at Camp Carlson near Fort Knox. The scenery was awesome which made a great day for an outdoor wedding. Below are some of my favorite images from the day.

I am looking forward to my first wedding of the season on Saturday. Jessica and Steven are getting married at Camp Carlson on Fort Knox. I checked out the location last week and I believe that it will be an awesome place for a wedding. The reception hall overlooks a lake which means that we should be able to get some really cool images.

We took Jessica and Steven's engagement photos in Glendale a couple of months ago. I have photographed several couples over the past few years and I have determined that some people make it super easy to get great images. Steven and Jessica are definitely one of those couples. When I was editing their engagement images it seemed like every one of them was a good one.

Here are some of the images from the engagement session. The wedding will follow in a few weeks.

These first four images were made in front of "Tony York's on Main" restaurant. Tony has rebuilt his restaurant into a first class dining facility nestled in the small town of Glendale.

Jessica and Steven have been dating for several years. I think it shows that they are very comfortable with one another.

Steven said this image represents how life is going to be after the wedding.

One of the final images for the day. I thought this shot was cool because I took it laying on the catwalk.

Kite Day

Dawson flew a kite for the first time in April. It was a windy day and he wanted to try out the kite that his great aunt Annette bought for him. It took a little getting used to but he finally got the hang of it.

After the kite flying expedition, Dawson decided to go biking like his daddy. He is trying to build enough strength so that he can ride to Glendale and back.

I never have claimed to be punctual on my blog postings. As a matter of fact sometimes I think that it is going to be the first year anniversary before I get any pictures up here on my blog. I have continously blogged that I was going to get better at that but each time, I get farther and farther behind. I definitely wanted to get Emily and Kyle's wedding images up before this year's weddings took place. So here goes.

Emily and Kyle were married in October of last year. The fall foliage was in it's prime and the weather turned out nice, especially in the afternoon. This was the second wedding that I have shot for the Hobbs family and we all had a great day.

Granddaddy

Thursday was a sad day for my family and me. My 90 year old grandfather passed away. We called him Granddaddy.

I spent many hours after his death reflecting on the memories that I had with him both as a child and as an adult. They were all good memories which was to be expected because he was a good man.

Some of my memories revolved around the many fishing trips that we embarked on together when I was a child. We once caught so many blue gill fish that we had to stop fishing because we couldn't clean them all. As I got older, Granddaddy taught me how to bird hunt. We walked together for many miles in the morning and afternoon air searching for quail. When a covey would rise up, Granddaddy didn't miss and he always downed two or three birds. I was impressed with his marksmanship because I considered myself lucky if I could hit one.

Granddaddy's endurance was as impressive as his marksmanship. He could walk through fields for what seemed like hundreds of miles without so much as stopping for a drink of water. When the sun began its decent Granddaddy would want to hunt one more field if I was willing. I always consented and I tried my best to keep up. I enjoyed those hunting trips and I wish that I could hunt through one more field with him.

Granddaddy was a World War II veteran. He spent 42 months in the South Pacific defending our great nation. Grandaddy didn't talk about the details of the war much but I know that he was proud of his service to our country. He was an active and respected member of the VFW post in Edmonton.

Granddaddy had a special place in his heart for anyone's service time and I always felt like he was proud of my career with the Kentucky State Police. Every time we got together he would tell me to be careful, then he would instruct me on how to "point shoot," like he had taught himself in the Philippines. I will miss those lessons.

Granddaddy made many friends and everyone in Edmonton, KY knew him. Granddaddy treated all people that he met with respect and he didn't complain even if things weren't going his way. This was evident by the diversity of individuals who visited the funeral home. His friends of all ages described how Granddaddy had influenced their life in a positive way.

Granddaddy left this earth as a happy man. He lived an entire lifetime without significant illness. He took care of himself and was able to travel alone anywhere that he deemed necessary. Most importantly he loved his family and friends. If I can live a long, healthy, happy and fulfilling life like Granddaddy, I will consider myself a fortunate person.

I will miss Granddaddy dearly and I will cherish my memories with him forever.

Kattie and Matt

Its been so long since I've posted that I don't know where to start. So I guess that I will start where I left off. Kattie and Matt got married last year in September. I wanted to get their images up sooner but...... things happen. Hopefully Kattie will forgive me since I was able get them up before their one year anniversary.

Kattie and Matt were married at the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center in Louisville. This was an awesome venue for a wedding. It had some of the coolest, artsy scenery that I have come across yet.

This was the largest wedding party that I had ever photographed. There were 12 groomsmen, 12 bridesmaids, a flower girl, three ring bearers, and some ushers thrown in for good measure.

Matt and Kattie's wedding was in the aftermath of Louisville's first hurricane. The lights came back on an hour before the wedding. This was a shot of the wedding/reception area. Kattie and her family did an outstanding job of decorating the place.

Kattie has a wonderful family. Before the wedding, Kattie's dad, mom, brothers, and their wives took dancing lessons. During the reception they had a dance performance especially for Kattie and Matt.

Emily and Kyle are getting married in Flaherty on Saturday. This will be the second Hobbs wedding that I have had the honor to photograph so I know the day will go off without a hitch. Glendale was the location of choice for their engagement pictures. I have included a few of the images to get you ready for some awesome wedding images to come.

Railroad tracks always make nice pictures. I think it is the sense of pending danger that makes them have a romantic feel.

The fine folks at Petticoat Junction in Glendale were nice enough to let us use their courtyard for a few photos.

Casey and Amanda were married on June 28 this year at the Elizabethtown Christian Church. Amanda and Casey were an exceptional couple and I don't think that I could take a bad picture of either of them. The weather was perfect, and the day flowed smoothly which are two great things for a wedding photographer.

6-7-08 was the date for Ryan and Kristy Johnson. Ryan and Kristy are family friends and I was honored that they chose me to shoot their wedding. They tied the knot in Danville, KY. The weather couldn't have been better and we captured some great images.

Matt and Kattie will be tieing the knot tomorrow at the Mellwood Arts and Entertainment Center in Louisville, KY. Hopefully the electricity will be back on by tomorrow afternoon. The venue is a cool location and we should get some great photos there. The weather is supposed to be awesome. I thought that I would slip in their engagement photos between the weddings that I did this summer. Check out their images below. We had a fun afternoon on the Nolin lake a few months ago.

I think the above photo will win the Cris Craft best image award.

Matt and Kattie were fun to work with. We just pulled up to a campground and grabbed this photo.

Born Twice is the name of the boat. It is a Cris Craft wooden power boat completely restored to its original condition by Matt's dad.

One of the most fun photos that I have taken in all my years of photography. We had this image planned since we originally met several months ago. I only had one shot at this and we got it! Matt and Kattie's wedding photos should be equally as awesome as their engagement images. They are a great couple and very exciting to work with.

Megan and Jeremy

These are a few of the images from Megan and Jeremy McAlister's wedding. They were married on May 31, 2008 in Elizabethtown. We experienced some hot weather but it didn't slow us down. After the wedding Jeremy and Megan were whisked away on a fire truck (Jeremy is a fireman). Below are some of my favorite images from their wedding.

Their wedding was held in Sonora on May 10, 2008. The reception was held at Claudia's Tea Room in Sonora. The weather was perfect that day which made for a great outdoor reception. What's up everyone? I've been busy since the wedding season is kickin' in high gear. I'm announcing each new bride and groom the week before their wedding so keeping checking back for the awesome couples that are getting married this year.

They are tying the knot in Sonora on Saturday and are planning an after wedding party/ reception at the Thurman/Phillips home and Claudia's Tea Room. Ashley and David are expecting a new baby today!!!

We took Ashley's maternity images a few weeks ago. Below are some of the favorites from the session.

Ashley is excellent to work with and I think the images show it. David wasn't too bad either.

I always like the way that this image turns out. Mom thinks its funny when her husband kisses the new baby on the forehead and Dad is secretly wondering, why is the photographer making me do this. The images always turn out good though.

Lance and Mary

It has been a while since I have posted. Shame on me. I seem to get more motivated when I haven't blogged in a while though. This week and next I will try to post a run on the images that I have created over the last month.

I hope all is well with everyone who reads this blog. I am glad that spring is finally peaking its head around the corner. The warm weather is knocking on our door and so is wedding season. I will start off a round of postings with this year's first wedding couple, Lance and Mary.

Lance and Mary are getting married at the Glendale Christian Church on April 26. We did their engagement session last year in the fall and it only seemed fitting to do the session in Glendale. I have included a few of my favorite images from the day.

Mary and Lance are some fun people to be around. Above are a couple of images that I liked from the railroad tracks.

When we started the session Lance said that they were nervous because they had never done this kinda thing before. By the looks of these images you would never know it!

I always tell my couples that I am going to have them doing all kinds of things that would normally embarrass them in public. Lance and Mary didn't seem to mind.

We borrowed this barn for the background. Mary said it belonged to her cousin. I told her that we would stick to the story if the police showed up. (Plan number two was to hope one of my buddies showed up). Anyway, thanks to Mary's cousin, I think.

Congratulations to Lance and Mary. I can't wait till their wedding. One of the things that I like best about my photography is that the people I photograph end up more like friends than clients. Lance and Mary are another couple that I call friends. I am sure that on April 26th we will have a great day! Stay tuned for their wedding photos in the future.

......And I bring you Sarah. These images were created on a rather warm February afternoon. Sarah told me before the shoot that she wanted some good images for her mother. I believe that we were successful. Sarah is a beautiful lady who works with my wife. We spent the afternoon shooting in downtown Elizabethtown and found several spots with awesome backgrounds. In fact, we took so many great images that I had a hard time editing them down to a reasonable amount of proofs. Below are some images from the shoot.

Macy, McKenna, and more of Macy

This is part 4 of the catchup series. A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph some of my friends' children. Many of you have probably seen McKenna's pictures on this blog, but I am not sure if Macy has made her debut. We did some newborn shots of Macy several months ago but I can't remember if I posted them. Macy has turned into quite the young lady. She is sitting up and before long, she'll be talking right along with her sister McKenna.

These are all natural light images with a big light coming in from the left. I used a 50mm 1.4 lens to take these shots.

Macy was very interested in the camera. (not withstanding mom and dad jumping and hollering behind me.) One of these days I'm going to shoot a video of a session and then post it on a video blog. Everyone will laugh for hours when they see what it takes to get a baby to smile.

Macy did pretty good but we had to keep propping her upright because she doesn't quite have the art of sitting down pat yet.

McKenna decided to join the party and we got a couple of images of the two sisters together.

McKenna then decided that it was more fun to go downstairs and finish eating her breakfast.

Macy decided to hang out in the wash tub and play with her toes. She appeared to be concerned as to why I was taking a picture of her doing this.

Babies are unique and even at a this young age they have distinct personalities different from their siblings and other children.

Sam

And here we are at Part 3 of my new year images. Sam or Sampa as he is known on his blog had his three month debut a few weeks ago. Most of you in the Hardin Co. School system probably know Sam's family very well. Sam was a good model and didn't get tired until the last few minutes of a lengthy two hour session. My sessions usually don't last that long with 3 month old babies but Sam just kept going and going.

Below are a few pictures from the session.

After the family shots, Sam decided to go it alone. Sam is a fighting Irishman so the green background fit well with his personality.

The Wells

This is part two of my first of the year run of portrait blogs. This is the Wells family with their newest member. Mom, Dad and Emma's two brothers couldn't be more proud. We took several images in their home all of which turned out nicely. Below are a few images from their session.

You can never tell but we could be looking at some of the first professional photographs of the future 2028 Miss Kentucky.

The Macy Family

I did a series of sessions at the first of this year involving toddlers and families. I will be trying to make a run this week after work to get some of those images up for everyone to see.

Below are some shots of the Macy family. Stephanie is a local realtor here in Elizabethtown so make sure that you go see her when you need to buy or sell a house. She is with Semonin Realtors.

Its always hard to get the dog and child to smile at the same time. Sometimes I have to settle for one out of two.

I prefer fun images like this one where everyone is paying attention to each other instead of the camera.

Leah decided that she needed some makeup for the shoot.

Now we get the pretty smile.

Finally my favorite image from the day. This image is timeless. I think it could hang as a family heirloom for generations.

Cleaning up

I am blogging tonight without pictures. I have lots of new images but I will put them up on a later post.

We were hit by the storms last week and the insurance adjuster came by today to give his estimate. We were lucky compared to the other people in the neighborhood. Our house recieved mild damage and a portion of my fence was blown down. Other than that the damage was only cosmetic. I can't say that the adjuster was overly generous but maybe it will cover our costs. The mess is aggravating to clean up. Thanks to all of the people who called to check up on us. (Special thanks to Tom who helped me fix my fence and to my dad who cut up a big tree that fell blew over in my yard.)

I have been working hard to get caught up on my pictures. For those of you that have wedding albums outstanding, I am working on getting those done. I am trying to get everything done before this year's wedding season begins in April. The storm last week and the mess hasn't helped me. I appreciate everyone's patience. Most of you know that I work two jobs which doesn't leave much time for anything else.

I have several projects planned for this year. One of my main goals is to revamp my website. I promised to update it last year on a regular basis but I relied on this blog instead. The new website will be very cool with a slightly different feel to it. I do all of my own web design so I will be glad when it is finished.

I bought Dreamweaver CS3 the other night. Dreamweaver is a great web authoring tool but takes some time to learn. So, I went to Barnes and Nobles and bought a book, "Learn Dreamweaver CS3 in 24 hours." I hope that I can learn it in 6. I'll just pick out the important parts that I need to know.

I also plan on finishing my "studio meeting room." It is operational now but I have to put the finishing touches on it. This room will be a show case of what I'm all about. I have installed a 42 LCD screen so that I can show new clients images of my past work. I will also use it to show proofs to my wedding clients. It's pretty awesome to see your wedding images on a 42 inch screen set to music.

Finally I plan on cleaning up my landscape and staining my deck. I like a nice back yard, not only for photography but for a nice getaway. There is nothing better than going out in your back yard to relax.

Brady

Brady was 4 months old when we took these images. He is the proud product of one of my wedding couples from June 2006. Brady is a fine looking young man and is currently trying to figure the world out. More importantly he was trying to figure out what the strange man with a big black clunk of metal attached to his face was doing in the house.

Brady has obviously taking after his father and is already supporting his favorite team.

Brady decided that the man with the clunk of metal on his face was a pretty cool dude. (That would be me for those of you who are trying to figure it out).

He started getting nervous though as we prepared for our next shot.

Brady thought that the chair was a little bit high for his comfort level.

In the end Curious George patted Brady on the back and made things all better.

Phillip and Abby

Phillip and Abby Shelton were married in Flaherty, KY on December 14, 2007. I enjoy photographing weddings around Christmas because the churches are always decorated for the holidays. Below are some pictures from the wedding.

We started with Abby getting ready at her home. Phillip was quarantined to a back room in the house until Abby was ready so that they could see each other for the first time.

This is one of my favorite shots from the day. This is an unposed, real picture of Phillip and Abby's emotion as they saw each other for the first time. Phillip and Abby are very much in love and these pictures show exactly how they feel about each other.

Sarah and Todd

A belated congratulations goes out to Sarah and Todd. They were married on November 03, at Grace Heartland Church in Elizabethtown. I actually congratulated them on their wedding day but I need to make it look official on my blog.

We started out the day at Hair Tech. We had a lot of fun while the girls were getting their hair done. I usually try to be a fly on the wall. It is amazing how much you can learn from the bridesmaids when they forget that I am around.

More Senior Pictures - Laura

I am trying to get all of my seniors posted this year. Most of my senior portrait images were made in September and I have been spreading them out over the last few months.

These images are of Laura. We spent a couple of hours at Saunders Springs in Radcliff. The images that resulted were awesome.

Laura attends Meade Co. High School and will be graduating in 2008.

Laura is one of those people that you just can't take a bad picture of.

Bryan and Laura were married on October 20, 2007 in Louisville, KY. We couldn't have asked for better weather. The fall foliage was at its peak which made for an outstanding day.

Trick or Treat!

Dawson went trick or treating tonight. It was the first Halloween that he could actually walk and carry his candy basket. His mom, err....I mean he decided to be Elmo this year.

As you can see he was rather excited about it all.

We went around the neighborhood and to friend's houses.

Dawson began racking up on candy fairly early.

Dawson met up with his friend Gracie and discussed where they would go next.

He finally decided to let his mom lead the way to the next stop.

Dawson was excited to show me what he scored in his basket at this house.

Oops, he dropped some candy. Dawson had a lot of fun this year but he was getting tired by 7:00. We went home and he sampled each piece of candy to decide what he liked and what he didn't. Maybe he will let me have some of the leftovers.

Sarah and Todd are getting married this coming weekend. That is of course, if Sarah can get Todd out of a deer stand. They will be tying the knot at Grace Heartland Church in Elizabethtown. We have a full day of photography planned and I am as exited as they are.

We took their engagement pictures a couple of month's ago in Glendale.

We just strolled around town and took pictures at various locations.

The picture above turned out great. The train came by and I got just the right amount of flare in my lens to make a good picture.

Sarah and Todd are a lot of fun to hang around. I think this shows in the pictures we took.

This couple actually met in Glendale several years ago when they both attended East Hardin Middle School. So we naturally had to include the school in their engagement pictures.

As promised, I am posting more of my senior pictures for this year. This group of pictures is from Madeline's senior session. I usually have a difficult time picking the ones that I want to post so I just decided to post the ones that she seemed to like.

These were probably some of my favorites too so I had it easy this time.

We took the pictures on a Saturday morning at Madeline's home.

Madeline is a very beautiful young lady. I think that she has the potential to do some modeling one day.

In Memory of

Lenvil Bryant

My wife's grandfather, Lenvil Bryant, passed away Thursday evening, October 18, 2007. Lenvil was a good man who lived a good life. He was 92 years old.

The death of a family member is always a sad time regardless of the circumstances. Lenvil was in and out of the hospital for the last couple of years. This was a hard time for a man who was used to getting around as he pleased.

Each time that I saw Lenvil he would greet me by saying, "Hey J." Lenvil, always had a smile on his face and he was glad to see me. He wanted to take care of other people and make sure that they were O.K. before he took care of himself.

Lenvil will be missed but I am sure that he is in a better place.

Donna and I would like to thank all of those who showed their support this week during our time of loss.

Deanna's Sr. Pictures

I will be trying to post some pictures from the Senior sessions that I did last month. I worked with some great seniors this year and we got some awesome images from their sessions.

Deanna is a senior at John Hardin High School. We took her pictures in Elizabethtown at the Brown Pusey house. I had never been there before but I was impressed by scenery.

Deanna wanted a picture of her dog so we did this one first to make sure he didn't get tired.

Next we moved around to different places on the property. These were taken in an alley between the buildings.

I like the way that the green grass makes a nice background for these relaxed portraits of Deanna.

Deanna is active in Ballet, Dance, and various other theatrical activities at John Hardin High School.

Deanna is a very beautiful and talented young lady. The last three images were taken in the perfect setting for these ballet poses. We took many more images during her senior session, most of which turned out just as awesome as these. Deanna and her family were great to work with.

Donna & Bradley's Wedding

My cousin Donna & her husband Bradley were married August 10 in a little town called Eighty-eight. I am a little embarrassed that it took me this long to get her pictures posted on the Internet but I guess it is better late than never. Hopefully Donna & Bradley won't disown me.

I picked a few shots to post that were interesting from the wedding day.

I purchased a new lens the other day that I had been wanting to get for quite some time. It was a 50mm 1.4. For those of you who are photographers, you will understand that this is a very fast lens. For those of you who are not photographers it means I can take pictures in very low light. I took a few photos of Dawson last night right before dark. I have posted a few of them for you to look at.

If your monitor has a brightness setting you might want to turn it down a bit or these pictures will appear a bit overexposed.

I generally turn my monitors to near their lowest setting.

Dawson is getting into everything now. He has learned to climb very well and doesn't stay still very long.

I had to snap these very quickly because he was up and running about the time I was able to focus.

The depth of field on a 1.4 lens is shallow which makes the background all buttery.

I told Dawson to run at me as fast as he could go. It took about 10 shots to get one in focus.

This was the last one of the day. ISO 3200 1.4. It was getting so dark when I took this picture that my landscape lights had turned themselves on.

Laura and Bryan

Laura and Bryan are tying the knot in Louisville next Saturday. We took their engagement pictures in downtown Louisville by the Waterfront Park.

This fun couple was great to work with. Laura always seems to have a smile on her face.

This session lasted about an hour and we went all over the place. I like to find different places so that the pictures look a little bit different with each session.

I still like to do some of my signature photos though.

We just walked around downtown and I took pictures of them interacting.

We finished the morning in the fountain that spouts water up out of the ground. They got wet when the water shot up but since it was late August, neither seemed to mind. We got a great picture out of it though.

Dawson Rides PaDanny's Tractors

Sunday, We decided to take a family trip to Columbia to see Grandma and PaDanny.

Dawson didn't want to leave Pa Danny's house so we had to bribe him with the privilege of sitting on a tractor.

The controls look big at first.

But Dawson is ready to handle any task at hand.

After we drove the Ford for a few minutes, Dawson decided that he wanted to ride the "Massey". This is the same tractor that I learned drive when I was about 7 or 8 years old.

Dawson is learning at age two.

After the tractors, Pa Danny gave Dawson a ride on the four wheeler (ATV). We bought this one in 1986 so I think Pa Danny may want to buy a new one with all of his retirement money.

Kelly & Casey's Wedding

As promised, here are a few of the wedding photos from Kelly and Casey Payton's wedding. They were married at My Old KY Home on July 21, 2007.

When I shoot a wedding, I usually stay with the bride all day long. I try to photograph all the little details that I can find. After the wedding day is over, those little details will spark the memories that last forever.

I think this photo captures Kelly as she truly is, a happy person.

Casey was just about to see his bride for the first time. The look of anticipation is priceless on the groom's face. I usually encourage the bride and groom to see each other before the wedding so that we can schedule extra time to make some great portraits.

I was fortunate that Kelly selected me to photograph her wedding day. My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown was one of the best venues that I have photographed to date.

Kelly and Casey made my job easy. This was one of my favorite portraits of them relaxing and having fun.

These gentlemen obviously mean business.

Kelly picked some nice colors for her flowers. Its the details that make the wedding day special. Leigh Taylor was responsible for coordinating Kelly's wedding. I have worked with her before and she did a great job as usual.

The wedding was followed by a reception in the courtyard at the park. The festivities included dancing at the rotunda, food, fun, and drinks for all.

Dawson Turns Two Years Old

Dawson officially turned Two years old today. He had his big birthday party Saturday at the Severn's Valley Baptist Church.

They have a nice area which is very well suited for having little kid's birthday parties.

We got up early and Dawson was helping blow up balloons in his fancy new Elmo shirt.

And you guessed it. Elmo was the theme of the party because is Dawson loves Elmo.

This is the giant jungle gym at the church. Even the dads had fun climbing on it. I think it went something like 20 or 25 feet up in the air.

Dawson had a lot of fun and the other kids seemed to have fun also.

Dawson couldn't wait to see what was around the next corner.

I was proud of my boy because he even knew how to blow out the candles.

Dawson had lots of gifts to open up and he told me to say "Thank you" for all of the things he got.

Donna Jo & Bradley

My cousin Donna Jo and her fiance', Bradley are getting married this Friday, August 10 in Metcalfe Co. We did their engagement pictures back a few months ago.

Bradley works for CSX railroads and travels all across the state. Donna Jo has just finished up college with a degree in Public Health. She is currently fielding the job market so if anyone has a suggestion, let me know and I will forward it on to her.
Their wedding will take place in a small town called "88." The little town became famous in 1988 when "Good Morning America," did their morning broadcast from there on January 1, 1988.
Bradley and Donna Jo have been dating for several years, so they both know what they are getting into. It must be a Propes thing because I dated my wife, who is also named Donna for five years before we tied the knot.

Congratulations to Donna and Bradley. I will be looking forward to their wedding next week.

A Busy Weekend

Wow! What a weekend! First of all, congratulations to Kelly and Casey. they were married at My Old Kentucky Home on Saturday. Without a doubt that has to be one of the best venues that I have photographed a wedding at. I would encourage any brides that want to get married next year to select that location and be sure and retain me as your wedding photographer. That place was awesome.

I had a new assistant at this wedding. Angella Watson, a photographer from Columbia, KY was gracious enough to help me out. She took this picture of me in action as the bride and her father were beginning to walk up the isle at the Rotunda. I can't wait to get the pictures from this wedding posted because it was a very cool place to photograph. For those of you that know Kelly's father Chuck, he is retiring this month, so July 2007 is going to be a month to remember for their family.

Donna, Dawson and I got up this morning and went to church. Dawson behaved very well this morning and I was proud of him.

Dawson is starting to recognize the value of money. I know this because he puts every penny, dime, or quarter that I leave laying around in his pocket.

This morning at church I noticed that he had some change in his pocket (now keep this in mind, Dawson is two years old). As the offering plate came around this morning I thought it would be a good time to teach him about the church offering. I pulled out about half of the money in his pocket and put it in his hand. I know, the good man upstairs requires only 10% but we were a little behind and I didn't think Dawson would notice. I was wrong. As the offering plate came around, with a little encouragement, Dawson put the money in the plate. The plate then went down the isle and Dawson decided that he wanted his money back.

Oh boy, I had to come up with some new change fast or we were on the verge of an early breakdown. Fortunately, I got the other half of the money out of Dawson's pocket without him noticing and everything turned out fine.

I've got a feeling Dawson is going to be frugal with his money as he gets older. He must get that from his Dad and Pa Danny.

I spent the rest of the afternoon finishing his swing set. Last month I built a tower with a slide, now he has a swing for Grandma to push him on. I am slowly but surely working on my to do list. If only I could get my deck stained and painted, shrubs mulched, car and truck washed and waxed, etc. etc. etc, then I could relax. I guess you never truly get caught up because if you did there wouldn't be anything left to do.

It's about bedtime so I will post more later in the week.

I thought that I had better get my behind in gear and start posting a little more since I went through a small dry spell a couple of months ago. This is my third post this week and I have even impressed myself. I don't think that I acquired any more time, I just finally said, "I can't get everything done today, so I will just have to do one thing at a time."

I think blogging is important because it keeps everyone up to date on what I'm doing.

This blog entry is rather neat for me because I am writing (or typing) from my living room couch. I uploaded the following pictures over my wireless network from my main computer. I know that you are probably not as impressed as I am but I think it is interesting that I can do that.

Kelly and Matt were married on June 9, in Glendale. We started the day at Alpha Salon in E-town. I know that most of the ladies in the area are familiar with the salon. They do outstanding work in a very relaxed environment. Try them out sometime and I doubt that you will be disappointed. Kelly didn't need much help getting ready though, she was looking awesome before she even had her hair done.
Kelly's dress was a fine piece of work in itself. I try to make sure that I catch all the little details so they won't be forgotten.

Kelly and Matt made it easy for me. I told Kelly that her wedding was a lot of fun because everything went so smoothly. We did an in depth planning session before this wedding and were on schedule the whole day. Kelly and Matt make a great couple. Matt was a good sport and was more than willing to strike a few "laid back" poses. I will spare him the explanations though, by not posting them tonight. If you know Matt and Kelly and get a chance to look at their proofs, ask Matt about the Hulk Hogan pose.
My favorite pictures seem to always revolve around window light. It is one of the best light sources because of the softness and even spread of the light. I saw this great light right after we were finished with the group portraits. These only took a couple of minutes but they turned out great.

And a sample of some of the fun shots that we do. I like to see my couples having fun in their pictures. After all if they are not having fun, whats the point, right? The picture above is one of my favorite examples from this wedding.

I took this image of the ring bearer during the ceremony. This young man was dressed up from top to bottom, top hat and all. I always wonder what the kids are thinking during a wedding ceremony.
Wanda Mora of Elizabethtown provided Kelly's cake and The Depot in Glendale provided the catering. Both did an outstanding job.

I am getting geared up for a wedding tomorrow at "My Old Kentucky Home" in Bardstown. The wedding will be an outdoor wedding and the weather is looking good. I think the high is supposed to be in the mid 80's. I will post pictures from tomorrow's event as soon as I can.

Kelly & Casey's Wedding

Kelly and Casey are getting married this Saturday at My Old Kentucky Home in Bardstown. This will be my first wedding at My Old Kentucky home but from what I've seen so far it is a photographers dream.

The wedding will be outside in the Rotunda and the weather is supposed to be in the low to mid 80's. Seems like the July weather is going to be nice to us this weekend.

Kelly and Casey are a great couple and both are anxious about their wedding on Saturday.

I can't wait to post some of the pictures from their wedding because I know they will be awesome.

We completed their engagement shoot a few month's ago in Radcliff at Saunder's Springs. If you haven't been there before, I would encourage you to go because they have all sorts of nice scenery and trails. If you are a nature buff it will be right up your alley.

I'll post some pictures from Kelly and Casey's wedding as soon as I can.

More Tampa Vacation Pictures

I finally got around to editing more of our Tampa vacation pictures today. This year when we went on vacation, I didn't take any work with me so I actually got to relax a little bit. Another tenant at the condo where we were staying had a sailboat. I think Dawson was ready to hit the open water.He wouldn't play in the sand until the last day. He then decided that he liked the water.

I thought this was a cool photo of my wife throwing Dawson up in the air against the sunset.

In case you are wondering these pictures are intentionally grainy. I like to throw a little artistic flare in my pictures and I think grainy black and white photos have a very nostalgic look.I spent a little time taking some pictures of sailboats, birds, flowers and other beach stuff while I was down there. I will post those pictures another time.

I have a wedding coming up this weekend at My Old Kentucky home. It will be an outdoor wedding and I am excited about photographing it.

We finally went on Vacation!

Donna, Dawson and I went our our first official "Family Vacation" last week. We went to Tampa, Florida and stayed at a condo with some of our friends from Somerset, KY. I took many pictures during the week and I will try to post some of them for you to look at.

We went to the Tampa Zoo on one of our day trips. Dawson had never been to a zoo before and the Tampa Zoo was definitely one of the best that I have ever been to.

We arrived at the entrance and Dawson had his doubts about entering a facility with caged wild animals.

But he quickly figured out that as long as they were inside the cage they were safe to be around.

Dawson said, "Hey Mommy wait for Me!"

We saw Bison,Penguins, andWhitetail deer.
I don't know what kind of critter this thing was but there were several like him and this guy seemed to be the lookout.

This of course is not an animal but I thought it made a nice photo.

After a couple of hours Dawson began to get tired and he fell asleep in his stroller.
This is the giraffe, up close and personal.The flamingos always ad a nice bit of color to the day. I never really quite understood why they sometimes sleep standing on one leg.

Dawson perked up when he saw the next animal. Especially after it tried to eat us for dinner.
This is not any ordinary cat. He looks somewhat docile laying on this branch but he became very aggressive and jumped about 20 feet through the air in an attempt to claim one us for a meal. It was a good thing the cage was there or we would have experience quite a fight.

I know that this is a rough photo of me but I had to throw in a self portrait. I've seen other photographers do this so I thought that I would give it a shot.
Dawson was ready to go home after about three hours at the zoo. I think he had a good time, it is always hard to tell with a two year old.

I guess I should apologize again. It has been over a month since I have blogged anything and I should be ashamed. Enough on the excuses. I just wanted to write a quick blog to let everyone know that I am still in business. I have been working very hard over the last month or so and I have a lot of pictures to prove it so check back this week and I promise there will be many pictures to look at. Kelly & Matt's Engagement

Kelly and Matt are getting married on June 09, 2007. We did their engagement session at Freeman Lake during the first week of April. Kelly and Matt, are without a doubt, among the most energetic and fun couples that I have photographed.

We started the session with a walk through the trails and bridges at the park. The weather was nice this day and several people were out at the lake to enjoy the afternoon. Although the park was busy, we found some quiet places where not many people were around.

I liked this shot with the red bud tree in full bloom. Spring is one of my favorite times of year because all of the trees and foliage come to life. These pictures were taken about a week before the "the big freeze" so all of the trees were starting to look nice.

I like to photograph couples who are willing to try something different. I'll bet most of Matt and Kelly's friends didn't know that they were into the martial arts. I'm no expert but their form looks pretty good to me. This was what I call a photo opportunity.
Congratulations to Kelly and Matt on their upcoming wedding. There will be more pictures of them to follow this summer after they tie the knot.

Sarah & Ben's Wedding

Sarah and Ben Bebber were married on March 17, 2007. Their wedding and reception was at Fort Knox, KY. We had a lot of fun shooting the photos and the day started out in Elizabethtown at the Turning Point beauty salon.

Sarah started getting ready around 8:00 A.M. I liked this picture because it shows mom in the foreground watching her daughter prepare for the ceremony later in the afternoon.
Sarah's dress was very pretty. She finished getting ready at the Henry House located on Fort Knox. The Henry house is a beautiful home used by generals and military visitors from other countries. It was furnished quite nicely and made a great backdrop for pictures.
I am very fortunate to be able photograph some of the most beautiful brides in Kentucky. My brides and grooms are always some of the best people to work with. Sarah is currently a 1st Lieutenant in the U.S. Army and her husband, Ben, is an artist. I make it a habit to photograph the bride and groom before the ceremony. A lot of people are apprehensive about this at first, because of tradition. But after I explain the benefits like getting to the reception immediately after the ceremony, and not feeling stressed for time, most couples are excited about the idea. We always get relaxed portraits like the one above when we do them beforehand.
I have to give my assistant David Norris credit for this photograph. David is a photographer in Leitchfield and helps me on most of my weddings. He always gets some of the best side shots when I am working with the bride and groom. The married couple before the reception.

Sarah's cake was very nicely done. I am not sure who made the cake but if I find out I will be sure and recommend them.
This photograph was taken during Ben and Sarah's first dance. They seem to be a very happy couple.
I thought this picture showed a lot of action as Sarah is dancing with her "girls".
They wanted to make sure that I got a photo of their "after wedding" sandals.

And finally, Sarah and Ben are sent off on their honeymoon by all of the guests in attendance. Ben and Sarah reside in Texas and I wish them the best of luck in the future.

Dawson's first Easter Egg Hunt

Dawson went on his first (successful) Easter Egg hunt this past Sunday. We had a few trials at other places but he seemed to really catch on at his Grandma and Pa Danny's house.
Every year for as long as I can remember my mother and her sister have been holding an annual Easter Egg (ie candy) hunt at my grandfather's home in Edmonton, KY. This year they decided to have it at Grandma and Pa Danny's house in Columbia. Dawson started off slow but really got the hang of things pretty quick.

Dawson looked in the bookshelf and even smelled of the eggs to make sure he didn't miss anything.

Dawson Looked for eggs everywhere and did a pretty good job of finding all of them.He found candy under the furniture and even took the time to read the package to see what it was.I thought this would be a cool shot. Dawson had to find this egg about three times before I got it right.As you can see his basket started filling up rather quickly.At last, the grand finale! The prize Easter basket. Dawson had a lot of fun and I'm sure that it will get better next year.

My Father's Retirement

Friday night must have been a bittersweet evening for my father. He retired after 38 years with the Farm Service Agency in Columbia, Kentucky. Donna, Dawson and I attended his retirement dinner which was held at Lindsey Wilson College. There were probably over one hundred friends and co-workers at his retirement dinner which is a testament to the vast amount of people that he had a positive influence over the last 38 years.

My dad has always been a hard worker. The only day that I don't remember him working was on Sunday, unless of course we had too. Not only did he put 40 plus hours in each week with the federal government but he also ran a part time farm which included cattle, tobacco, and peppers (I would like to forget the bell pepper year, so would my mother). He didn't farm because we needed the money, he farmed because he liked to. I was in the FFA during high school and I vaguely remember my dad suggesting that we raise an acre or two of cabbage or pickles for my Ag project. I'm glad that we decided to stay with tobacco. I also think that my dad had a farm because he liked to stay connected with the farmers that depended on him for their finances.

During my dad's retirement dinner many of his friends and co-workers said great things about him. I haven't lived in Columbia for almost 12 years so most of these people have probably seen and spoke with my father much more than I have. It was interesting to listen to the way they described him. All of the statements that were made, echoed the lifestyle that I grew up in. Hard work, and always doing things the right way is what I remember most. No matter what it was, my father would never say that something was 'good enough,' it always had to be done the right way. I have probably followed in his footsteps because many of the words used to describe my father would have also described the way that I tackle tasks today.

There is one quality that my father enjoyed at his work which will probably make his retirement somewhat difficult for a while. My dad loved his job. Nowadays people move from career to career because we always think the grass is greener on the other side or we think our grass is brown. My dad wasn't like that, he always loved what he did. I never once heard my father say that he was considering another job nor did he ever complain about the one that he had. So I am sure that he was happy in his position.

I hope that my dad will enjoy his time off now that he is retired. I know that his retirement is a significant milestone in his and my mothers life. I think they should travel and see the United States but my mom and dad say they are happy and plan to stay right where they are. I think my dad is planning on increasing his farming operation. He might even raise some more bell peppers but I'll bet my mother hopes he doesn't.

New Pictures

I have some new pictures to blog about. A couple of weekends ago I made some great pictures of James and Sofia. James is a new arrival to the world and he made his photographic debut at about 4 weeks. Sofia is about 6 months old. She is just starting to get a grip on the world

James is a good sport and did very well for the almost hour long session. We had to take a few breaks in between but I think that he might have a modeling career ahead of him. Congratulations to Angela and Jamie, I'm sure that the new addition will bring much excitement to the family.

Sofia is quite the model as well. Sofia is a spitting image of her dad. We took picture after picture and I believe Sofia was ready for more. She didn't cry even once during her session.

We used window light for Sofia's portraits and they turned out great. I am beginning to like window light more and more. The photos always look very natural. I like it when the weather warms up because I can take more natural light pictures outside.

Last weekend Ben and Sarah tied the knot at the Main Post Chapel on Fort Knox. They had a beautiful wedding and the weather couldn't have been better (maybe a little warmer but we are glad it didn't rain). There was a large crowd at the wedding and the reception was pristine. As soon as I get their pictures edited I will be sure to post some for the blog.

Twins

A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to photograph these twins. I think they are somewhere around a couple of months old in the pictures. I like the pictures with each one individually posed in the chair. They show the relationship of an infant's size compared to their surroundings.

Still Workin'

Since I haven't posted any pictures in a while, I'll bet many of you are wondering what in the world have I been doing. We have been entertaining the Flu. The Flu visited my house this year and then spent various weeks with my wife, Dawson, and myself. The Flu is not a very nice guest. He sneaks in at the worst times then wears everybody out with a fever and chills. After that he makes your muscles ache then leaves you with some sort of bronchitis or chest cold. The Flu is not welcome in our house any more. I've been getting the Flu shot for the last couple of years and it helps. However, I caught just a touch of the Flu this year but it wasn't bad enough to slow me down any. I'll bet my wife gets the Flu shot next year.

I've been working hard on my pictures and have decided to post a few from some recent sessions. Taylor and Emma are two babies that I have been photographing since birth. If you look at my website you will find some of their other pictures there. Each time I try to do something different so that their parents will have a variety of pictures to choose from. Sorry that I haven't posted for a while. It seems as though I keep creating work for myself. Last week I decided that it was time for a new computer, so I built one. Yes, I built myself a computer.

It is not as difficult a task as one might imagine. I am a perfectionist though and it became difficult fast. I assembled all of the components and got the thing up and running, now the hard part. I had to transfer all of my files and settings from my old computer to the new one. That took a long time, then I had to set up my software so that I could work like I was used to. That took a long time too. Next I had to calibrate my new LCD monitor. This took a long, long, long time. You see, I am a perfectionist, and nothing short of perfect will work for me. No matter how hard I tried, I just couldn't quite get the thing to match my prints exactly. Then I learned that LCDs are much harder to calibrate than CRT (television type) monitors. I think that I finally got the thing close enough. I will just have to see how my first batch of prints turn out then adjust from there.

I was going to sell my other computer but I have decided to keep it and have a wireless network in my home. That way my wife can use the old computer and I can use the new one and we can share an Internet connection. This will all take place when I get my office completed in the basement. Things to do, things to do.

This next paragraph is on a little different note, but I think it is very funny.

Donna, Dawson and I went to church on Sunday. We usually sit in the very back because Dawson doesn't really know what sit still and be quiet means yet. I think the other people in the back corner are used to us so hopefully our disruption is not that big of a deal.

Now the funny part. I am amazed at how much little kids pick up just by watching adults, (this probably explains the unable to sit still and be quiet part). Anyway, we take communion every Sunday and place the communion cups in the back of the pew. Dawson decided that he liked to play with the used cups, so rather than start a meltdown we just let him play with them.

Out of the blue he picks a cup up and turns it up on his pacifier like he is taking communion. He then slam dunks the cup as hard as he can over the pew at the couple sitting in front of us. The lady next to us was trying to get him to stop and Donna and I just couldn't help but laugh. (I guess you had to be there but it was funny.) This all happened during the serious part of the sermon too, so you can kind of get the scenario.

I know people think , "why do they bring a child that young into the main church service instead of the nursery?" but we have our reasons. I think people with kids probably understand better than those that don't. I for one at least, understand better now.

I will post more photography related stuff as soon as I get caught up with my pictures.

Long Week

I had an exhausting work week. Most of you probably saw the Wednesday issue of The News Enterprise and can probably figure out what I have been working on. I have two professions, one is full time and the other is almost full time. Most of my clients, family and friends know what the other full time profession is. Sometimes working at both can be rather stressful. I am fortunate to have an understanding wife who helps me get through the difficult days.

Photography puts balance in my life. I am lucky to have found something that I truly enjoy and have a passion for. I am exposed to many of the bad situations in life with my other job. Seeing those things day in and day out can make a person somewhat cynical. Photography on the other hand helps me to see the positive side of life and lets me know that for every bad thing that we hear about on the news there are many more good things that are never told about. Photography lets me focus on those good things. I feel like that I have created something positive after each photography session or wedding that I am a part of.

Many people say that if you find work that you enjoy, you will never work a day in your life. I enjoy my photography and agree with that statement 100%. I have met some great people through my photography in the last few years. I would consider most if not all of those people as new friends. As my photography progresses, I look forward to working with many more new friends in the future.

Maternity Session

There will be quite a few new babies in the world soon! I have done several maternity sessions during the last two weeks. I try to make the sessions interesting. Sometimes we do things that are fun, other times we try to be a little more artistic, but most importantly we try to capture a mother's pregnancy so that it best reflects who she is.

I have noticed one thing in common about all soon to be mothers. Each one of them is very happy. I didn't realize what that "glow" was until my wife became pregnant a couple of years ago. I now see it in every mother that I photograph.

Demi Moore made her maternity photography debut back in the 90's when she posed on the cover of Vanity Fair.

Brrrrrrr, Its cold outside

Winter time is here. I thought that we were going to get the first snow of the year on Sunday night. I think the great snow maker was just teasing us. Instead, someone left the freezer open and all of the cold air came to E-town. My wife was hoping for a snow day at school on Monday. That didn't work out so now she is banking on Thursday.

I like a good snow storm. O.K., I like a good snowstorm once or twice during the winter but no more. It would be kinda neat if it snowed one day, then was completely gone the next morning. Instead, the snow gets dirty on the road and Wal-Mart and Kroger pile up these huge snow mountains in their parking lot. Those same snow mountains last until early April because it doesn't ever get warm enough to melt them.

If we get a good blanket of snow this year I am going to go out and take some pictures of the landscape. Who knows, I might even take a magazine cover photo. Then I would become famous. I could even have the cover framed and put on my wall.

It doesn't hurt to daydream does it?

My dogs get to come inside when it is this cold. Zoe loves to come inside and sleep where it is warm. Noah, on the other hand, is weird when it comes to sleeping in the house. He would rather stay outside in the 10 degree temperature. For some reason he acts like he is scared to come inside. I'm not an inside dog person, but I take care of my animals. When it gets below 15 degrees, I think they need to be where it is warm. Dawson loves to play with them anyway so I don't guess it will hurt anything for them to come inside for a night or two.

McKenna's Birthday Party

Dawson went to McKenna's 1st birthday party this weekend.

She turned one on January 20th.

The party was a fun filled afternoon of little kid energy. All of the little party goers toddled, crawled, and generally wondered what the excitement was about. Some chased balloons, and the others tried to help McKenna open presents before it was time.

This is a photo of McKenna's first birthday cake. (O.K, I don't know why I labeled this photo. Everyone should probably be able to tell what it is.)

I think Dawson was trying to give McKenna a toy or something. Kids are funny when you sit back and watch them. I wonder what they are thinking during their social interaction. Probably something like, "Have a toy, Kenna. Here, I'll hit you in the face with it."

McKenna put on her birthday hat and said, "Its party time!"

It was time for the big moment and McKenna's Daddy lit up her first birthday cake.

McKenna dug right in. I think that she would have eaten the whole thing if they would have let her.

Everyone got their share of birthday food. I'm not sure who made the cake but it was delicious. McKenna's family went all out on her big day.

Dawson said "Happy Birthday McKenna!"

We can't wait until next year for the big #2.

Popham - Henning Wedding

I have been busy, busy, busy trying to get caught up from December. With the MLK weekend I was able to finally get a hold on things. I spent all weekend proofing Derrick and Brittney's wedding pictures and finally got them done. They were happily married on December 30, 2006. We had a lot of fun at the wedding and they make a great couple. I have posted some of the pictures from the wedding below.

Dogs

Do any of you have dogs? Dogs are funny, sometimes aggravating, they are friends, they always want to see you and they eat a lot. At least my dogs eat a lot. I like dogs and dogs usually like me. We have two dogs which are Chocolate Labs.

Labs are some of the best dogs that there are........ ............after they get to be about 4 years old that is. My dogs used to chew up everything. Noah, my biggest dog, decided that he did not like where I planted trees in the back yard. So in the course of one night, he dug up and chewed up almost every one. We had to put chicken wire around our trees for the next four years so that they couldn't chew up any more. One night I was watching satellite TV. It was a clear night with not a cloud in sight. I don't remember what show that I was watching but all of the sudden the signal went blank like when a heavy storm comes over. I went outside and looked up and every star in the sky was shining brightly. I look down and there was Noah dog, shaking, terrified, with his tail tucked between his legs. I knew immediately what had happened, so I examined my satellite dish and sure enough Noah had chewed all the cables into. Needless to say that became a bad night for Noahdog. Noahdog survived that evening and went on to chew up more tree limbs, dryer vents, misplaced shoes and everything else that he could get in his mouth.

Donna and I thought that maybe Noah needed a sister, so we got Zoe. We thought that the two would occupy each other and that Noah would quit destroying things in the back yard.

We were wrong! Now we had twice the trouble!

Donna and I went on a short vacation one year and had a friend dog sit for us. I called to check on the dogs and asked how they were doing. Matt said they were doing great and loving life because he had unlocked his and the neighbors gate so the dogs had free reign of three back yards. I said, "You surely didn't do that, Did YOU!?" All the way home I was calculating expenses in my head to determine the maximum amount of damage that they could have done to my neighbors newly purchased deck furniture. We got home and it wasn't as bad as expected but they did destroy a couple of water hoses, a sprinkler, and a doormat.

I eventually learned to dog proof everything in the back yard. Noah and Zoe have lived together with us for 6 years now. They became great dogs after they reached the ripe ole age of four.

I care a great deal about my dogs and we try to take care of them the best that we can.

I'm writing about dogs tonight because my wife let Noah in the house earlier. She also left the garbage out and Noah Loves Garbage! All I heard downstairs was Noah eating garbage as fast as he could and my wife yelling as loud as she could. I wasn't about to go down there and get in the middle of that mess. To make matters funnier he got back into the house and the garbage a second time. All I heard this time, was Donna whipping and yelling. (She might as well have been whipping an elephant though, because Noah weighs more than she does.) Noah got put back outside and all has been quiet for a while. They haven't even barked tonight.

I'm sure that the future will bring more adventures with Noah and Zoe, especially since Dawson is getting older and wants to play with them more often. I'll update about them again if they do something exciting in the future.

Website Finally Updated!

Whooooooohooooooooooooo!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I know that everyone else may not be as excited as me but after about 20 hours of non stop work I finally finished updating my website. It combines several galleries from both old and new photographs. I have 9 galleries and a little over 350 pictures. The format is still the same but I have tweaked it just a little bit. I also think that it is a little more user friendly. Some of the files are large, so if you have a slow connection please be patient. I figure that most people have DSL or cable nowadays so downloading speeds are not such a problem.

Hopefully I will update my site more regularly than I have in the past year.

Ben & Sarah

I apologize for not updating this blog during the last couple of weeks. December has been one hectic month. I had a wedding on December 30 which was my last one of the year. I will be posting pictures from that celebration soon. In the meantime I have been trying to get caught up on my pictures that I took during the first part of December.

Ben & Sarah are getting married in March of this year. Ben and Sarah are a military couple. They currently live in Texas and came home for the holidays. We shot their engagement photos on December 22. Ben just left the military and Sarah is still active duty. Sarah emailed me a couple of weeks before she came home to schedule an engagement shoot. She then went on a "short trip" to Korea. I told her mom that I didn't believe that there was such a thing as a short trip to Korea. I am excited about their wedding because it will be the first one for 2007

Ben and Sarah are a fun couple. Once we started shooting it seemed like an hour went by in an instant. All of their engagement pictures turned out great and I have posted a few for everyone to look at.

I think that I like shooting engagement pictures better than any other. It is usually stress free and all I do is catch the couple in moments that make great pictures. We always have a lot of fun. The hardest part for me is selecting which pictures to proof. I always have many more than what I need for the session.

Welcome Jackson!

Jack and Martina Rachau are proud to announce the birth of their son Jackson. He was actually born in 2006 but I just got his pictures finished tonight.

These photos were taken at three weeks old. As you can see, he is bright eyed and ready to see the world.

That is, unless mom is holding him.

Both mom and dad are proud of the new addition to their family.

Merry Christmas

Well, Christmas has come and gone once again. This was Dawson's second Christmas but probably the first one that he will remember. I don't know how he will ever play with all the toys that he received. I also don't know where we will put them. Once again this year we seemed to have received more than we gave. I am lucky that we are so fortunate to have many places to visit and many people to share the holiday season with. Each year I try to give gifts that involve a little work or thought on my part rather than just going out and spending money at a store. I worked until about midnight last night trying to make sure that most of the gifts we gave had their finished touches.

I think all too often everyone gets caught up into a hectic schedule during the holiday season. There are so many places to go and so many people to see that we often forget the real reason to celebrate. Maybe in years to come we should slow down and think about the real reason for the season. Most of us are very lucky people, nowadays. We all live a quality lifestyle, most of us are able to afford anything that we need. Technology has made the world a place of convenience and luxury. But there are people out there that still don't have a quality lifestyle and are scraping every penny just to survive. Many times these people are the elderly. If you are able, and have an elderly friend or relative in need, I encourage each one of you to help them in any way that you can, either financially or by helping them out with chores that they might not be able to do for themselves. As the year comes to an end remember all those in need around you and those people who have helped you when you needed it.

I want to thank everyone who has helped make this year successful for me.

Be Grateful

I am in the process of updating my website. I have been so busy during the last seven or eight months that I haven't had time to post any of my new pictures. It seems like I am tied to a computer 24/ 7. Anyway, the site will look very similar to the way it does now with only a few minor changes. I guess you could say that it is getting a minor face lift. I will post a message when it is updated.

I know everyone is getting ready for the holidays. I'm looking forward to seeing my brother and his family. They live in Florida and I only get to see them once or twice a year. They recently took a trip to Italy. I'm sure that they will have lots of photos to document their adventures while overseas.

Unfortunately, a lot of people are sad this year. Many have lost children and parents in the recent months. Everyday, I see firsthand how lucky I am and how unfortunate others can be. You can have all of the money in the world but I don't think there is anything that can replace the loss of someone that you care about, especially a child. I recently spoke with a couple who lost their toddler to a tragic accident. My thoughts go out to them. I don't know how parents could ever recover from the loss of a child. As soon as I got home that night, I hugged my little boy tight because I couldn't imagine life without him.

This holiday season we all should be grateful for what you have and be sure to remember those that may have lost someone special in their lives.

Well, I had better get back to the grindstone.

Christmas Pictures

Every year, starting in late October until late November, I spend most of my weekends photographing children and family Christmas pictures. It's a lot of fun watching parents and myself go to all extents to get their kids to smile and look at the camera. We jump, waive our arms, make funny sounds, hoot, holler, and anything else that might get a baby's attention. Sometimes its so funny that I can't even press the shutter button on my camera because I'm laughing too hard. I think that I'm going to start bringing a video camera to my photo sessions and record the whole thing. I believe we could all become famous on America's funniest home videos. After all the hard work (just ask some parents), most of the keeper pictures come from a time when the kids aren't even paying any attention to us. Go figure.

Brittney & Derrick

Brrrr, it was cold on Friday. We almost froze to death. I believe that the temperature was around 30 degrees. (O.K. 30 degrees is not that cold but it felt like it.) Brittney & Derrick are getting married on December 30 this year. It will be my last wedding for the year and I am very excited for the opportunity to photograph their special day. I especially enjoy working with this couple because they seem so natural and real in front of the camera.

These photos were taken in Glendale a few weeks after Jen and Manuel's. Glendale is such a nice little town. There are many small shops and restaurants for everyone to visit. This little town is a happening place a couple of times a year. It fills up with several thousand people at the annual Glendale Days.

Engagement sessions are great because they get me pumped up for the big day. After the session I come home and review all the images that I have taken and almost always I say, "wow!" They get me to thinking about new ideas for weddings coming up in the near future.

Every wedding is different. I always see something that catches my eye and I try to get new original images from each one.

I will post some images from Brittney and Derricks wedding in January. I'm sure everyone will be looking forward to seeing them.

Jen & Manuel are getting married 07-07-07. Seems like a lucky date to me. Anyway I have the distinct priveledge of photographing their wedding next year. Manuel and I are co-workers. He is currently serving active duty in Iraq and came home for a couple of weeks in November. I did their engagement photos in Glendale, KY while he was home and we got some great results. The weather was chilly but not unbearable. I wish Manuel the best of luck and I hope he gets home safe soon. Here are some photographs from the session.
